What it means · The Desk’s View

If you cost palladium: re-quote down. The metal is $36.00 cheaper than at the 8 September mark.

If you buy palladium scrap: bid and ask sit $40.00 apart, a spread of 2.9963% of the bid.

What this is not: a trend. One session, and no source read named a cause.

IPalladium fell, three barely moved

Thirty-six dollars off. Palladium is bid $1,335.00 against $1,371.00 on 8 September, a fall of $36.00, or 2.6258%.

The other three held. Gold eased to $4,389.30, platinum rose to $1,841.00 and silver to $66.13. None of the three moved a full percent.

IIThe spread is the wider story

Forty dollars apart. Palladium is bid $1,335.00 against $1,375.00 asked, a spread of 2.9963% of the bid, up from 2.9176% on 8 September.

Boards disagree on level. TradingEconomics quoted palladium at $1,365.00, 0.738% from Kitco's mid of $1,355.00 but 2.247% from its bid. Most of that gap is the spread itself.

IIIThe ratio narrowed to 66.4

Silver gained on gold. It takes 66.4 ounces of silver to buy an ounce of gold, against 66.7 at the 8 September marks.

Gold ranged $72.90. Gold covered $72.90 between $4,340.80 and $4,413.70 on the session, more than seven times the fall it printed.

01What would change this call+

Palladium back at $1,371.00 on the next session. That would make this a single tick rather than a move, and the re-quote advice above would have cost a bench nothing to ignore.

02Which change you are reading+

A price board prints its own change field, measured from its prior close. A paper that reads the board once a day prints the change from its own last reading. The two use different reference points and will not agree, especially on a metal that trades around the clock. Carat Capital carries the second and names the first wherever it differs.

03Method · the desk’s arithmetic+

Marks are Kitco's bid, read at 10:04 UTC on 9 September 2026 at press time, superseding the 05:00 EDT opening mark under the paper's one-price rule; both the dated tape file and the live tape file carry these values and were checked against each other. The opening mark read $4,399.30, $66.50, $1,847.00 and $1,339.00. Prior marks are the 8 September levels in Carat Capital's own record, $4,399.10, $65.946, $1,829.00 and $1,371.00, and every change and percentage above is computed against them. Kitco's own change field prints all four metals higher on the session; that field runs from Kitco's prior close, a different reference point, and is not used for the changes here. Second boards: livepriceofgold.com quoted gold at $4,390.66, 0.031% from Kitco's bid, and silver at $66.227, 0.147%, both inside the band the price desk treats as timing noise. TradingEconomics quoted palladium at $1,365.00, 0.738% from Kitco's mid and 2.247% from its bid. No independent second board returned a static platinum figure this session, and that gap is disclosed rather than presented as a completed two-page check. The gold-silver ratio, the 2.9963% spread and the session ranges are Carat Capital's arithmetic on those quotes.
