Platinum sheds $63.00 to $1,634.00, all four metals lower

What changed
Platinum led the fall. Platinum's bid reads $1,634.00, down $63.00 against the mark Carat Capital printed on 6 October. All four metals are lower, and all four fell further after the five o'clock filing.
What it means
- If you quote platinum work: The session's own range runs $1,632.00 to $1,716.00. That band is worth 5.14% of the bid you are quoting off.
- If you hedge a gold book: Gold's fall is the mildest of the four at 0.79%, and its bid-ask spread is $2.00.
- If you price palladium: The $40.00 bid-ask spread is twenty times gold's. Thin quoting, not direction, is the risk in that metal.
- What this is not: A close. These are intraday bids on a live board, and both feeds read as an open session.

Platinum took the worst of it
A wide session. Platinum traded between $1,632.00 and $1,716.00 on the same board stamp. That $84.00 band is 5.14% of its own bid, the widest of the four in proportion.
Both columns agree. The fall reads 3.71% against Carat Capital's 6 October mark and 4.00% on Kitco's own day column. The direction is identical and the reference close is not.
| Metal | Bid | vs 6 Oct mark | Kitco's own day | Session low–high |

Notes on this table
Two change columns, both printed and both labelled. The third column runs off the marks Carat Capital printed on 6 October — gold 4,150.30, silver 60.87, platinum 1,697.00, palladium 1,148.00 — looked up in that dated tape file rather than derived from this board. The fourth is Kitco's own day column off its own reference close, which is a different starting point and therefore a different number. Neither is suppressed in favour of the other. Low and high are the board's own session figures for the same instrument.
Every mark fell after five
Four write-backs. The five o'clock filing had gold at $4,122.90, silver at $60.233, platinum at $1,648.00 and palladium at $1,125.00. All four are lower at press time.
One price, one tape. Under the One-Price Rule the press-time bid replaces the opening mark in Carat Capital's record. The figure above is the only gold number the paper carries this morning.
A second board says the same
Three inside the band. An independent CNBC feed reads silver at 60.191, platinum at 1,641.98 and palladium at 1,137.89, each inside Kitco's own bid-ask range for the metal.
Gold misses by cents. CNBC has gold at 4,117.26, fourteen cents below Kitco's bid and 0.0034% outside the band. The gap is disclosed rather than smoothed.
The session is open. Kitco's payload carries sub-second timestamps and CNBC's market-status field reads REG_MKT on all four quotes, stamped 06:06 Eastern.

What would change this call
A recovery through the session high. Platinum at $1,716.00 would put it above the 6 October mark and make this morning a dip rather than a break; the low and the high are only $84.00 apart.
Which price this paper prints
Carat Capital prints one price per metal per morning, taken from the Kitco board's bid rather than its mid or its ask, and the tape carries that number for the day. Where a metals story leads the edition the board is read again at press time, and a different reading replaces the opening mark in the dated tape file and in the live tape together. The change column is always computed against the mark the paper itself last printed, looked up in the prior dated file.
Method
The board was fetched to raw bytes at kitco.com, HTTP 200, 197,028 bytes, saved to newsroom/sources/2026-10-07/kitco.html, and parsed out of the page's embedded payload. Exact-digit greps on that saved file: 4117.4 one hit, 4119.4 one, 60.029 one, 60.279 one, 1634 one, 1644 one, 4171 one, 61.617 one, 59.977 one, 1716 one, 1632 one. Every figure above was read from the file rather than from any summary. Board stamps are originalTime 2026-10-07T05:58:58.55Z for gold, .62Z silver, .67Z platinum and .713Z palladium, unix 1791367140. Prior marks were looked up in newsroom/tape/2026-10-06.json, not derived: gold 4150.30, silver 60.87, platinum 1697.00, palladium 1148.00. Change arithmetic, with the divisions shown: 4117.40 less 4150.30 is −32.90, divided by 4150.30 is −0.79%; 60.029 less 60.87 is −0.841, −1.38%; 1634 less 1697 is −63.00, −3.71%; 1119 less 1148 is −29.00, −2.53%. Band-to-bid: platinum 84.00 divided by 1634 is 5.14%; gold 55.40 divided by 4117.40 is 1.35%; silver 1.640 divided by 60.029 is 2.73%; palladium 80.00 divided by 1119 is 7.15%. Bid-ask spreads are $2.00, $0.250, $10.00 and $40.00, and 40.00 divided by 2.00 is twenty times. The second page was the CNBC quote service, HTTP 200, 4,580 bytes, saved alongside. MARKET STATE READ OFF THE BOARD: no closure or holiday is claimed anywhere here. Kitco's sub-second stamps and CNBC's curmktstatus of REG_MKT with last_time 2026-10-07T06:06 Eastern were both read in this run and are the evidence the session is open. The four write-backs were made to newsroom/tape/2026-10-07.json and newsroom/tape/latest.json in the same step; a side-by-side read of gold and platinum from the two files returned 4117.4 / 4117.4 and 1634.0 / 1634.0, matching. No pull quote is carried.
