What changed

Every metal gained. Gold's bid reached $4,158.40 against Friday's $4,139.80 close. Platinum's 2.19% was the largest percentage gain of the four.

What it means

  • If you price off the board: Three of four bids moved between the board's two stamps. Quote the time with the number.
  • If you buy palladium: The bid-ask spread is $40.00, against $2.00 on gold.
  • What this is not: A settled session. These are intraday bids, not closes.

Palladium's band is the widest

Range beats direction. Palladium traded between $1,142.00 and $1,212.00 on the same board, a band of $70.00.

Width is relative. Divided by palladium's own bid that band is 6.03%. Gold's is 1.13%. The ratio between the two is 5.4.

Notes on this table

Bids, asks and session ranges read out of Kitco's own embedded price payload, board stamp 2026-10-05T05:58:59Z on all four metals. The 2 October closes are the marks Carat Capital's tape printed for that session and are looked up, never derived. Change and percentage change are Carat Capital's arithmetic against those marks: 4,158.40 ÷ 4,139.80 = 1.004493, so +0.4493%. Band ÷ bid is Carat Capital's division of the session range by the bid: palladium 1,212.00 − 1,142.00 = 70.00, and 70.00 ÷ 1,161.00 = 6.03%.

Gold gained least of the four

Smallest move, largest level. Gold's 0.45% is the smallest percentage gain on the board and platinum's 2.19% the largest. The two are 1.74 percentage points apart.

The board is live, not frozen

The stamp advanced. Kitco stamps all four metals 2026-10-05T05:58:59Z, an hour on from the 04:58:59Z stamp the same page carried earlier. Three of the four bids differ between the two readings.

What to watch

  • 08:00 ET, 5 OctLBMA gold and silver fixes publish. Tests whether the morning gain survives into a fixed price.
  • 17:00 ET, 5 OctUS session closes. Monday's bids become a settled mark against these levels.
  • 6 OctNext session's opening marks, measured against Monday's bids rather than Friday's closes.

The story so far

  1. All four metals fell over the week to the 2 October close.
  2. Platinum lost $34.00 in the single 2 October session.

What would change this call

A close below Friday's marks. These are intraday bids an hour into the European morning, and a session that gives back 0.45% on gold would erase the smallest of the four gains entirely.

How the bid on this board is read

Kitco publishes a bid, an ask and a mid for each metal, stamped with the time the quote was captured. Carat Capital prints the bid under the One-Price Rule, so one number per metal per morning carries through the paper. The ask is kept in the tape for the spread, not printed as the price.

Method

Kitco's precious-metals board was fetched to raw bytes (197,612) and the figures parsed out of the page's own embedded price payload rather than read off the rendered board. Exact-digit greps on that saved file: 4158.4 two hits, 4160.4 one, 4171.4 one, 4124.6 one, 61.52 seven, 61.769 one, 61.953 one, 60.24 three, 1728 two, 1738 one, 1745 one, 1694 one, 1161 two, 1201 one, 1212 one, 1142 one, and the stamp 2026-10-05T05:58:59 eight hits. The 2 October closes are not on Kitco's page and were not expected to be: they are looked up in Carat Capital's own tape file for 4 October, where 4139.8 returns nine hits, 60.274 six, 1691.0 three and 1152.0 three. Kitco's own change fields on this fetch read +18.5999 and +0.44930% on gold, +1.246 and +2.06723% on silver, +37 and +2.18805% on platinum, +9 and +0.78125% on palladium, which means the board's own prior close equals the tape's archived mark on all four metals; the arithmetic was redone independently and matches. The market is called open because the board's own stamp advanced and three of four bids changed with it, not because of anything inferred from a calendar; no holiday is named and none is claimed. The stamp is printed exactly as the source emits it and no local-time conversion is asserted.
