Sotheby's expects $9m-plus for 30 watches, nearly all first-owner
A platinum Patek 5374/300P-001 leads at $2.5 million to $5 million in New York on 7 December. Most of the rest are Tiffany-retailed Pateks, several double-signed and new to auction.

What changed
Provenance is the pitch. Sotheby's expects The Original Owner Collection, 30 watches nearly all kept by their first buyers, to make more than $9 million in New York on 7 December.
What it means
- If you consign modern Patek: Sotheby's is marketing first-owner provenance and Tiffany signatures, not age alone.
- If you bid in New York in December: Phillips sells on 5 and 6 December, two days earlier. Both houses lead with Patek.
- What this is not: A result. Estimates exclude the buyer's premium, and nothing sells before 7 December.

Two Pateks make auction debuts
A jewelled grand complication. The platinum Patek 5374/300P-001, a minute repeater perpetual calendar set with baguette diamonds and sapphires, is estimated at $2.5 million to $5 million. Patek unveiled the reference in 2022.
A Rainbow Aquanaut follows. The 5260/355R Aquanaut Luce Rainbow minute repeater, circa 2024, carries $1.4 million to $2.8 million. Sotheby's says both are making their auction debuts.
A third repeater too. A pink gold 5208R-001, which pairs a minute repeater with a chronograph and an instantaneous perpetual calendar, is estimated at $900,000 to $1.8 million.
| Watch | Made | Estimate |

| Patek 5374/300P-001 minute repeater perpetual calendar, platinum | c. 2026 | $2.5m–$5m |

| Patek 5711/1A-018 Nautilus, Tiffany dial | c. 2022 | $1m–1.6m |
| Patek 5208R-001 minute repeater chronograph perpetual | c. 2023 | $900,000–$1.8m |
| Patek 7118/1451G-001 Nautilus, gem-set, Tiffany | c. 2026 | $400,000–$800,000 |
| Patek 5980/1R-001 Nautilus chronograph, Tiffany | c. 2024 | $250,000–$500,000 |

| Patek 5821/1AR-001 Cubitus, Tiffany | c. 2025 | $150,000–$300,000 |
Carat Capital's sum of the nine low estimates: 2.5 + 1.4 + 1.0 + 0.9 + 0.4 + 0.25 + 0.2 + 0.15 + 0.15 = $6.95m; of the highs, $13.5m. The release does not say whether its $9m expectation includes the buyer's premium.
Tiffany signatures fill the rest
Most came through Tiffany. The remaining watches are mainly Patek references retailed by Tiffany & Co., which Sotheby's calls Patek's first US retail partner since 1851. Several are double-signed and new to auction.
The blue Nautilus. The 5711/1A-018, a 2022 edition of 170 with a Tiffany-blue dial, is estimated at $1 million to $1.6 million.
Several firsts at auction. Sotheby's calls its Tiffany-signed Cubitus 5821/1AR-001 and Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G-001 the first of each offered at auction. Both carry $150,000 to $300,000.
Phillips sells two days earlier
A crowded week. Phillips holds its New York Watch Auction on 5 and 6 December, led by a pink gold Patek 2499 estimated above $3 million.

What would change this call
First-owner Tiffany pieces selling near their low estimates. Then provenance adds little to a modern Patek's price.
How an auction estimate is quoted
Sotheby's says its estimates exclude the buyer's premium, while prices achieved include hammer price, buyer's premium and overhead premium. A sale-day result is therefore higher than a hammer price set against the same estimate.
