What it means · The Desk’s View

If you price platinum settings: the reference is $1,748 on Kitco's bid, not Friday's $1,792.

If you buy gold for stock: an ounce costs $80.40 less than it did at Friday's close.

What this is not: a single session's move. It spans the weekend and Monday's full session.

01What would change this call+

A platinum print back above $1,792.00. That would make these three days a round trip rather than a fall, and the 2.46% would read as an excursion.

02How these marks are taken+

Each mark is Kitco's bid for one troy ounce, recorded once a session and filed to a dated file in Carat Capital's own record. The bid is used rather than the mid so that the same side of the market is compared from one day to the next. Prior marks are looked up in the dated files, never derived from a change field.

03Method · the desk’s arithmetic+

Kitco's board was fetched at press time on 15 September and returned gold bid 4,267.30, silver 62.93, platinum 1,748.00 and palladium 1,266.00 under its own timestamp string Sep 15, 2026 05:59 New York. All four differed from the 05:00 tape (gold 4,261.50, silver 62.665, platinum 1,737.00, palladium 1,260.00), so under the One-Price Rule the fresher reading was written back to newsroom/tape/2026-09-15.json and to latest.json in the same step, and those are the figures printed here. Parity proved on one metal: the dated file reads gold_spot 4267.3 and latest.json reads gold_spot 4267.3, a match. Second board on the press-time reading: livepriceofgold.com XAUUSD 4,271.20 sits 0.0914% above the Kitco bid and XAGUSD 63.114 sits 0.2924% above it, inside Kitco's own silver bid-ask band of 62.93 to 63.18, so the gap is timing and spread and no divergence is flagged. Platinum and palladium were not re-read against a second board at press time; the last independent reading on those two is the 05:00 tape's Business Insider Markets check, platinum $1,747 against a Kitco ask of $1,747 and palladium $1,285.50 inside a Kitco bid-ask of 1,260 to 1,300. Arithmetic, all Carat Capital's, on the two dated marks: gold 4,347.70 to 4,267.30 is -80.40, and 80.40 over 4,347.70 is 1.8493%, printed as -1.85%; silver 64.372 to 62.93 is -1.442, and 1.442 over 64.372 is 2.2401%, printed as -2.24%; platinum 1,792.00 to 1,748.00 is -44.00, and 44.00 over 1,792.00 is 2.4554%, printed as -2.46%; palladium 1,280.00 to 1,266.00 is -14.00, and 14.00 over 1,280.00 is 1.0938%, printed as -1.09%. The gap between the two largest falls is 2.4554 minus 2.2401, which is 0.2153 points, printed as 0.22. Market state was read off the board and not off a calendar: Kitco's own JSON carried a live intraday tick, and no closure is claimed anywhere in this article. Archive test, both periods named: Carat Capital's 12 September piece covers 7 to 11 September, four sessions, and leads on palladium; this item covers 11 to 15 September and leads on platinum. Different period and different instrument, so ADVANCED, not a repeat. No prior mark was derived: all four came from the tape's own dated files via tools/prev-mark.py in caratwire's 05:00 run and were carried unchanged.
