Perth Mint sells 47,300 ounces of gold, up 98% on August
Silver minted-product sales reached 605,408 ounces and platinum 4,711, which the Mint puts at 344% above the prior month. The first 2027 Year of the Goat coins carried the month.

What changed
Minted sales turned. The Perth Mint sold 47,300 ounces of gold in September against 23,932 in August, and 605,408 ounces of silver against 333,880. Platinum went to 4,711 from 1,060.
What it means
- If you buy coin and bar stock: Two months of this pace empties a quiet winter's inventory. The Mint names new Lunar releases as the driver.
- If you read retail demand off mints: September's gold figure is 29% above the same month last year. Silver is only 5% above it.
- If you hold platinum: Platinum is the one metal below its year-ago level, at minus 23%, despite more than quadrupling on August.
- What this is not: Investment demand in total. These are minted-product sales from one mint, not cast bars, ETFs or jewellery offtake.

The quiet midyear ended
Gold nearly doubled. 47,300 ounces against August's 23,932 is the Mint's own 98%. Its general manager for distributors and product development attributes the rebound to the first 2027 Year of the Goat coins.
Lunar carried it. September's new bullion releases run from a 1/20-ounce gold coin to a one-kilo silver coin, plus 10-ounce and 100-ounce silver cast bars.

Notes on this table
September levels and all four percentage columns are the Mint's own, read from its published table. The August levels are not in that table; they are looked up in Carat Capital's own 5 September 2026 report of the Mint's August update, never re-derived. The two sets cross-check each other: 47,300 divided by 23,932 is 1.976, the Mint's 98%; 605,408 divided by 333,880 is 1.813, its 81%; 4,711 divided by 1,060 is 4.444, its 344%. All three agreements confirm the right prior month has been matched. The Mint also publishes three-month columns, at +59% for gold, +106% for silver and +291% for platinum, which are not tabled here because the June levels behind them are not in Carat Capital's record.
Platinum quadrupled and still lags
Four times over. 4,711 ounces against 1,060 is the largest proportional move of the three metals. It remains 23% under the same month in 2025.
A thin base. Platinum minted sales are small enough that a single release swings the percentage. The absolute figure is under 1% of the silver ounces sold.
The month the metals fell
Gold off 5.5%. The Mint has gold near $4,400 mid-month before softening to about $4,200, ending September down more than 5.5% against its own reference close.
Silver fell harder. Silver traded as high as $67 mid-month and closed near $60, a monthly fall of 8% on the Mint's reading. The gold-silver ratio ended near 69.75.
Two rate rises. The Mint names a 25-basis-point Federal Reserve increase in September and an RBA rise of the same size, to 4.6%. The Australian dollar sat at 69 US cents.

What would change this call
An October figure back near the August level. That would make September a release-calendar spike rather than a demand turn, and the Mint's own commentary already credits a specific coin launch rather than a change in buying.
What a minted-product figure counts
The Perth Mint reports monthly sales of gold, silver and platinum sold as coins and minted bars, in troy ounces, through its Australian Precious Metal Coin and Minted Bar Program. It excludes cast bars sold outside that programme, depository holdings and the refinery's own throughput, so the series reads retail and collector demand for a specific product line rather than total investment demand for the metal.

The three division checks in the table note were run to confirm that the August levels in this paper's archive are the same August the Mint's percentage columns measure against. No pull quote is carried: the Mint's general manager is quoted in the source on the Lunar releases, and his comment is paraphrased with attribution rather than lifted.
