Chow Tai Fook files to register RMB 10bn of panda bonds
The jewellery group has applied to China's interbank dealers' association to issue in tranches within two years of acceptance. Chow Tai Fook Services, a separate Hong Kong listing, registered half that amount in January.
The cap is RMB 10 billion. Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group has applied to register up to RMB 10 billion of debt financing instruments with China's interbank market dealers' association, to be issued in multiple tranches.
If you finance jewellery inventory: the group is going onshore for renminbi rather than to the offshore dollar market.
If you hold Chow Tai Fook paper: the stated uses include repaying existing borrowings, so this is refinancing as well as growth.
What this is not: a bond sale. The application is under processing and approval is not certain.

ITwice the January registration
Two listings, one door. Chow Tai Fook Services, a separate Hong Kong-listed company, registered up to RMB 5 billion with the same association in January. The jewellery group's cap is twice that.
Same body, bigger ask. Both applications went to the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors, which registers renminbi debt sold onshore by issuers incorporated outside the mainland.
IIProceeds cover growth and debt
Five stated uses. The proceeds are earmarked for working capital, jewellery product development, store upgrades, strategic market expansion and the repayment of existing borrowings.
Upgrades, not openings. The group ended June with 5,434 points of sale after closing a net 258 mainland locations in its fiscal first quarter.
IIIApproval is not yet given
Processing, not priced. The announcement states the application is under processing and that whether or when approval comes is undetermined.
Conditions decide the terms. Timing, tenor, scale and terms will depend on market conditions when each tranche is issued.
01What would change this call+
The association declining or delaying the registration. The two-year window never starts, and the store upgrades are funded from cash flow instead.
02What a panda bond is+
A panda bond is a renminbi-denominated bond sold inside mainland China by an issuer incorporated outside it. Hong Kong-listed companies use them to raise onshore currency for onshore spending without converting offshore dollars. Registration with the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors sets a ceiling; the issuer then sells in tranches inside a fixed window.
03Method · the desk’s arithmetic+
Two independent Hong Kong financial wires were read directly for this item: etnet, timestamped 11/09/2026 16:46 and naming stock code 01929, and RTHK, whose page carries 2026-09-11 HKT 19:23. Both give the same RMB 10 billion cap, the same registrant and the same two-year window. The company's own filing on HKEXnews was not reached: the document identifier could not be found without guessing an address, which this seat does not do, so the primary is named as unread rather than presented as a second check. The RMB 5 billion comparison is Chow Tai Fook Services (HK:0659), reported by The Standard on 14 January 2026 as an application to the same association. Arithmetic: 10 divided by 5 is 2.0, a multiple of one renminbi figure by another, with no currency conversion asserted anywhere in this article. The 5,434 points of sale and the net 258 closures are Carat Capital's own reporting of 26 July 2026 on the group's fiscal first-quarter update, and are dated to end-June, not to the announcement. Archive test, both periods named: 27 pages in the archive carry Chow Tai Fook, the newest being quarterly sales and gold-counter pricing through August 2026; none covers debt issuance or any bond. New entity-and-document, not a repeat.
