Richard Mille takes GB1 timekeeping for the 38th America's Cup
The British challenger races the second preliminary regatta at Naples from 24 to 27 September, and will launch a reconfigured AC75 by the end of 2026. No terms were disclosed.
No price was published. Richard Mille has become Official Timekeeping Partner of GB1, the British challenger for the 38th America's Cup in Naples in 2027. The announcement carried no financial terms.
If you retail the brand: A sailing tie gives a counter a story with dates on it. The first regatta window closes on 27 September.
If you track sponsorship value: Nothing is published. No fee, term or activation budget appears in the announcement.
What this is not: A watch launch. No model, reference or price is attached to the partnership, only the naming of a timekeeping partner.

IThe boat is a rebuild
The hull is kept. GB1 retains the core structural hull from its 2024 campaign, with a rebuilt internal layout for five sailing cockpits.
The systems are new. The team lists battery-based energy storage, upgraded control electronics, appendage interfaces and foil systems for the 2027 rule cycle.
IISix nations race at Naples
The regatta is one-design. Six nations race AC40 foiling yachts at Naples from 24 to 27 September, GB1's first racing on those waters.
A fourth attempt. The British team returns for its fourth America's Cup campaign, representing the Royal Yacht Squadron as Challenger of Record.
IIIThe brand's reason, in its words
Precision is the pitch. Peter Harrison, chief executive of Richard Mille EMEA, said the "38th America's Cup rewards precision, relentless innovation and resilience".
The sport is old. The trophy dates to 1851, when the schooner America sailed to Britain to race the British fleet.
01What would change this call+
A published figure. This partnership is worth nothing on paper until a fee, a term or a product commitment is disclosed, and none is; a later filing or interview that puts a number on it would make it measurable either way. A change of Challenger of Record or a withdrawal from the 2027 event would end the association before it produced anything a counter could sell against.
02A timekeeping partnership is a naming right, not a supply contract+
Official Timekeeping Partner is a category sponsorship: the brand buys exclusivity in the timing category for an event or a team, and usually the right to place logos, host guests and put product on the wrists of named participants. It is not the same as supplying the instruments that actually time the racing, which in modern America's Cup competition is done by the event's own tracking and telemetry systems rather than by a wristwatch. It is also not a licensing deal, so it does not by itself produce a commemorative model, although brands frequently follow one with a limited edition. The value to a retailer is therefore narrative rather than allocation: the story has dates, names and a location, and it ends in a scheduled event. Whether it moves stock depends on whether a product follows, which nothing in this announcement promises.
03Method · the desk’s arithmetic+
The announcement was located through GB1's own team page on Pressmare and then fetched directly: https://www.pressmare.it/en/team/gb1/2026-09-24/richard-mille-official-timekeeping-partner-america-cup-92945, 200, 60,181 bytes, with the body read out of the served page. A first URL for this item, taken from an upstream desk's note, returned 404 and was not used; the working address was found by reading the team index's own link list. The page is dated 24 September 2026 in its own URL path and carries the sentence "The announcement was made ahead of the second America's Cup Preliminary Regatta (24-27 September)", which is the basis for both the publication date and the regatta window printed here. Every name, boat specification and date in this article is stated on that page: Sir Ben Ainslie as team principal, Ian Walker as chief executive, Dylan Fletcher MBE as skipper and helm, Ben Cornish, Bleddyn Mon, Andrea Tesei and Jemima Lines in the squad, the Royal Yacht Squadron Ltd as Challenger of Record, the fourth campaign, the six nations in one-design AC40s, the 2024 hull retained with five sailing crew cockpits, the battery-based energy storage and the end-of-2026 launch commitment. The quotation is ten words from Peter Harrison, identified on that page as chief executive of Richard Mille EMEA, counted before filing. The archive was checked by opening every hit rather than counting them. A search for "Richard Mille" across the built site returns three articles plus the record index: all three were opened and they are a Guess watch a reviewer compared to a Richard Mille, a Joopiter auction lot, and a Christie's half-year sale in which an RM 56-02 sold - none is a sponsorship or a sailing story. A search for "GB1" returns nothing and a search for "America's Cup" returns nothing, so no prior coverage of this event exists here at all. One item this desk was offered on the same beat was not filed: a Swiss watch export figure that conflicted with the Federation's own statistics page and duplicated this paper's 17 September article on the same August data. No financial figure is printed in this article because none was published, and none was estimated from comparable deals.
